Chip Lindsey has officially left his position as offensive coordinator at Michigan, opting to take on the same role at Missouri. This decision comes after a tumultuous season at Michigan, which was marred by a scandal involving former head coach Sherrone Moore.
Lindsey, who has been with Michigan for just one season, decided to step away from his play-calling responsibilities following the controversies surrounding the program. In a statement released by Missouri, he expressed enthusiasm about joining the coaching staff under head coach Eli Drinkwitz.
“I could not be happier to have the opportunity to work with Eli Drinkwitz in Columbia,” Lindsey stated. “What Coach Drinkwitz has done at Mizzou over the past six years is remarkable. Coupled with the commitment the University of Missouri has made to the football program, this is one of the most attractive coordinator jobs in the country. The commitment and infrastructure in place from an organizational standpoint and the talent on the field is truly exciting.”
During his tenure at Michigan, Lindsey led an offense that ranked 11th in the Big Ten for scoring, a slight improvement from the 14th position the previous year. His coaching resume includes stops at North Carolina, UCF, Auburn, Arizona State, and Southern Miss, as well as serving as head coach at Troy from 2019 to 2021.
Drinkwitz praised Lindsey”s capabilities, highlighting his skills in coaching, player development, and offensive implementation. “He does a tremendous job of not only coaching and developing players but organizing and implementing the offense. He is an excellent offensive mind with a wide range of experience,” Drinkwitz noted.
In addition to Lindsey”s departure, Missouri is set to transition to a new offensive play-caller, as Kirby Moore prepares to step into the head coaching role at Washington State. Meanwhile, Michigan has announced that it will promote co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Steve Casula to the position of offensive coordinator ahead of the Citrus Bowl matchup against Texas on New Year”s Eve.
