Gus Malzahn Retires After Successful Season with Florida State

This decision follows a successful season at Florida State, where the offense achieved remarkable national milestones under his leadership.

The transition for the Seminoles begins as they prepare for the 2026 season, with Tim Harris Jr. stepping into the role of offensive coordinator. Malzahn”s departure is unexpected, especially following a season where the Florida State offense excelled, leading the conference in several statistical categories and setting school records for offensive production.

During his career, Malzahn achieved significant milestones, including a national championship as a coordinator and a conference title as a head coach. Head coach Mike Norvell confirmed Malzahn”s retirement, commending the strong culture and tactical framework that were established over the last 14 months.

In his final season, Malzahn contributed to the Seminoles regaining the top spot in national offensive efficiency rankings. Malzahn”s tenure at Florida State ended on a high note, as he helped the team average 472.1 yards per game and recorded an impressive 775-yard game against Kent State.
