Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson recently participated in a second interview with the Philadelphia Eagles for their offensive coordinator position. This follows a prior virtual meeting between Johnson and the Eagles, and highlights his ongoing connection with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, with whom he worked during their time together at the Colts.
Johnson has been credited for his role in developing rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, although Stroud”s performance has noticeably declined in recent weeks. This is particularly concerning given that Johnson”s coaching tenure has included a challenging playoff loss where Stroud recorded four turnovers against the Patriots.
In addition to Johnson, the Eagles are considering other candidates for the position, including Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion, Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, and former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.
Johnson”s path to the Eagles includes a brief stint on their training camp roster in 2011 before he was released. He spent three seasons coaching under Sirianni at the Colts, who served as the offensive coordinator there. Since joining the Texans” staff in 2023, Johnson”s contributions to Stroud”s early success have been noteworthy, although his lack of experience calling plays may be a disadvantage in this hiring process.
In 2024, Johnson had previously interviewed for the Eagles” offensive coordinator role, but the team ultimately selected Kellen Moore for the position. Currently, the Eagles are conducting second interviews with four candidates, reflecting their desire to find the right fit to lead their offense moving forward.
