Jerrod Johnson Joins Eagles Offensive Staff After Texans Departure

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to welcome a new voice in their offensive staff, as reported by Mike Garafolo from the NFL Network. Jerrod Johnson, who previously served as the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans, will join head coach Nick Sirianni and new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

Johnson held the position of quarterbacks coach with the Texans from 2023 to 2025, navigating through several changes in the offensive coaching staff. However, the team”s performance at the quarterback position did not evolve as expected. Recently, ESPN”s Adam Schefter reported that Johnson and the Texans had mutually decided to part ways, allowing him the opportunity to explore new job prospects, which led him to the Eagles.

Although Johnson”s specific role with the Eagles has not been officially defined, his recent experience has primarily revolved around coaching quarterbacks. Before his time with the Texans, he was an assistant quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. Additionally, he worked as an offensive quality control coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2020 to 2021 after participating in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship in 2019. He also filled a similar role with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.

Johnson”s collegiate career at Texas A&M spanned from 2006 to 2010, where he played quarterback and earned recognition as the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2010.

In a related note, it has been reported that the Eagles were turned down for an interview with a potential offensive coordinator before appointing Mannion. The Dallas Cowboys declined an interview request for their offensive coordinator, Klayton Adams. Sirianni expressed interest in interviewing Adams, who had just completed his first season with the Cowboys after previously serving as the offensive line coach for the Arizona Cardinals. Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer rejected the request, citing that there was no promotion opportunity for Adams, thereby allowing him to do so. Schottenheimer recounted their conversation about the request and acknowledged the situation”s humor.

With Johnson joining the Eagles, fans will be eager to see how his experience and insights will enhance the team”s offensive strategy moving forward.
