Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh may be making a return to the NFL coaching scene in 2026, as he has reportedly emerged as a finalist for the head coaching position with the Tennessee Titans.
Saleh was dismissed by the Jets during the 2024 season after posting a record of 20-36 over four seasons. Following his departure, he took on the role of defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2025. Despite facing numerous injuries within the team, he played a key role in steering the 49ers to the divisional round of the playoffs, although they suffered a significant defeat against the Seattle Seahawks with a score of 41-6.
His efforts did not go unnoticed in the coaching community, as he participated in interviews for head coaching roles with teams such as the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins. Currently, he is a finalist solely for the Titans” position. The Titans have been exploring options after initially expressing strong interest in former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who recently concluded an 18-year tenure with the team. However, the New York Giants quickly signed Harbaugh to a five-year, 100 million dollar contract, with his formal introduction set for Tuesday at the team”s facilities.
Coming off a challenging 3-13 season, the Titans have a promising centerpiece in last year”s No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Cam Ward. However, Saleh”s history with developing young quarterbacks is mixed, particularly with his experience coaching former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson during his time with the Jets.
