Tajh Boyd Elevated to Quarterbacks Coach on Dabo Swinney”s Staff

Tajh Boyd, a celebrated figure in Clemson football history, has received a significant promotion within Dabo Swinney“s coaching staff. Boyd, who has spent five years as a coach, has been elevated to the position of quarterbacks coach following a successful tenure as an offensive player development coach and later as an offensive analyst and assistant quarterbacks coach.

Returning to Clemson in 2021, Boyd initially focused on developing offensive players for three years. In 2024, he transitioned to assisting the quarterbacks, and now, as the new quarterbacks coach, he will work closely with the returning offensive coordinator, Chad Morris. Morris previously served as offensive coordinator during Boyd”s playing days in 2011, making this a reunion of sorts for the two.

Morris, who has had stints as a head coach at various programs after leaving Clemson, is returning with the aim of revitalizing the Tigers” offense. Following a challenging season, former offensive coordinator Garrett Riley was let go, prompting Swinney to bring back a familiar face in Morris. “I”ve gone back to the future with Chad Morris. The reasons I hired Chad in 2011 are the exact same reasons I have hired him again,” Swinney stated. “First of all, big-picture, Chad will be our OC. Tajh Boyd will be our quarterbacks coach. Chad will not be on the road. He”ll be in the office.”

During his playing career at Clemson, Boyd set numerous records, including marks for completions, passing yards, and touchdowns. He was recognized as a three-time All-ACC player and earned All-American honors, as well as being named the ACC Player of the Year in 2012. Boyd”s contributions to the program were further acknowledged with his induction into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.

He played a pivotal role in establishing a legacy of excellence at the quarterback position, paving the way for subsequent stars like Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, DJ Uiagalelei, and Cade Klubnik. Boyd”s success has helped Swinney attract top talent and achieve significant playoff success. As Boyd continues his coaching journey, moving from analyst to a critical role as quarterbacks coach, speculation arises that he could one day succeed Morris or even Swinney in the future.
