Arkansas Razorbacks Target SEC Defensive Tackle Michai Boireau from Florida

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Razorbacks are positioning themselves to potentially acquire Michai Boireau, a skilled defensive tackle from the Florida Gators, who has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. This move comes as new defensive coordinator Ron Roberts, known for his extensive experience in college football, takes the helm in Arkansas.

Boireau, who played in nine games this past season for the Gators, recorded 20 tackles, two sacks, and an interception while participating in 144 total plays. At 6-foot-5 and 390 pounds, Boireau was previously rated as a three-star recruit, ranked No. 761 nationally and No. 87 among defensive linemen. He chose Florida over offers from various prominent programs, including Georgia, Auburn, and Florida State.

Since joining Florida, Boireau has made significant strides in his physical conditioning, shedding over 50 pounds and impressing coaches like Billy Napier. Napier praised Boireau”s intelligence and leadership qualities, noting his ability to elevate the performance of his teammates. “Michai”s a very smart young man with good football acumen,” Napier stated. “He plays with a motor on game day, and his extra effort on the field is what makes him a difference maker.”

Last season, the Razorbacks faced challenges along their defensive front, needing to convert offensive tackle Keyshawn Blackstock to a defensive role due to depth issues. This adjustment highlighted the team”s struggles, as they allowed nearly 186 rushing yards per game, placing them at No. 117 nationally.

Adding to Arkansas” optimism for the future, freshman four-star defensive tackle Kevin Oatis recently announced his return for the 2026 season. Hailing from Mississippi, Oatis was highly regarded in high school and participated in the Under Armour All-American Game before joining the Razorbacks.

Amidst these developments, the Razorbacks are looking to enhance their competitiveness within the SEC. The program is undergoing a financial revitalization that aims to attract high-caliber talent. Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek emphasized the importance of these investments, stating that they are crucial for retaining talented players who can lead the program moving forward. “The financial commitment we”ve made is vital to ensure that we can keep the talented young men we want to be part of our program,” Yurachek remarked.

As Arkansas continues to navigate the transfer portal and strengthen its roster, the addition of a player like Boireau could prove significant in enhancing their defensive capabilities.
