Baylor Bears Seek Transfer Players for Holiday Boost

The Baylor Bears find themselves in need of some festive cheer this holiday season after a challenging year that saw a significant number of players depart through the transfer portal and graduation. Following a disappointing 5-7 record, the program is looking to bolster its roster with talented players who can wear the green and gold.

In light of the Christmas spirit, the Baylor football program could certainly benefit from a few key acquisitions. With 18 starters returning but many of them now gone, head coach Dave Aranda is hoping that the holiday season will bring some much-needed reinforcements, particularly at the quarterback position.

One intriguing transfer candidate is DJ Lagway, who began his collegiate career at Florida. After the firing of head coach Billy Napier, Lagway announced his intention to enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2. He has a personal connection to Baylor, as his father, Derek Lagway, played running back for the Bears from 1997 to 2001. During his time with the Gators, Lagway played in 24 games, throwing for 4,179 yards and 28 touchdowns, though he also recorded 23 interceptions, a statistic he will need to improve upon.

Another option for Baylor could be Brady Sorsby, who led the Bearcats to a seven-game winning streak before the team struggled, finishing with a 7-5 record. Sorsby had an impressive run, throwing 20 touchdown passes without any interceptions during that streak, and he ended the season with over 3,300 total yards and 36 touchdowns, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors.

Chandler Morris is also a potential fit, as he passed for 3,472 yards and 29 touchdowns in a season where he faced some challenges, including 13 interceptions. Morris had multiple touchdown games and several 300-yard games throughout his career with the Horned Frogs, showcasing his potential as a strong offensive player.

Additionally, Brown from the UAB has garnered attention after passing for over 3,000 yards and rushing for over 1,000 yards this past season. His impressive stats, including 11 touchdown passes and only one interception in the last four games, demonstrate his dual-threat capability, making him a valuable target for Baylor”s recruiting efforts.

As the Bears aim to rebuild and strengthen their roster, Aranda and offensive coordinator Jake Spavital must act quickly to reach out to these potential transfers. With the transfer portal opening next Friday, Baylor fans are hopeful for an impactful holiday season and positive news to kick off the New Year.
