Baylor Offensive Lineman Sean Thompkins to Enter Transfer Portal

The Baylor Bears will be without a key offensive lineman as Sean Thompkins has decided to enter the transfer portal. This development marks the first significant departure from the offensive side of the team. Thompkins, who is a redshirt sophomore, stepped into the starting lineup during the latter part of the previous season, filling in for struggling lineman Sidney Fugar.

Despite his opportunity, Thompkins faced challenges on the field. According to Pro Football Focus, he recorded a run-blocking grade of 48.1, which was the lowest among all linemen on the team. His pass-blocking performance mirrored this struggle, earning him the same score, further highlighting his difficulties in the role.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 300 pounds, Thompkins concluded the season as the starter at left tackle for Baylor. During his time on the field, he allowed four sacks, the highest total for any player on the Bears” roster this season. With his exit, Baylor will need to find a replacement for the 460 snaps he contributed throughout the season.

Although losing Thompkins is a setback, the Bears are also anticipating the graduation of several key linemen including Ryan Lengyel and All-Big 12 member Omar Aigbedion. Center Colton Price has the option to return for another year, which could provide some stability on the offensive line.

Thompkins initially joined Baylor as a three-star recruit in the 2023 class, ranked as the No. 626 prospect according to Composite rankings. His recruitment included interest from several notable programs, such as Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, and Tennessee. He also earned second-team honors on the 2021 All-Region 7A Team.

As the transfer portal opens this winter, Baylor”s coaching staff, led by Dave Aranda, will need to act swiftly to bolster their offensive line, especially given their limited 2026 recruiting class. The Bears will be looking to aggressively acquire new talent to strengthen both their offensive and defensive units.
