BYU Football Begins Spring Practices Ahead of 2026 Season

The BYU football team is set to commence its spring practices this week as it prepares for the 2026 season. These practices will officially begin on Friday and continue throughout March.

During this spring camp, the Cougars will have the opportunity to practice 15 times before transitioning to summer conditioning. This period is particularly significant for BYU, as the team returns most of its starters from a successful 2025 campaign where they achieved a 12-2 record and reached the Big 12 championship game, ultimately falling to Texas Tech.

A major storyline this spring will be the development of sophomore quarterback Bear Bachmeier. After a notable freshman season, there is optimism about his potential to elevate BYU”s offense to new heights with dedicated offseason work.

However, the Cougars face challenges as they look to fill the void left by star wide receiver Parker Kingston, who was recently removed from the roster following serious legal issues.

On the defensive side, new defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga will take charge, inheriting a unit that retains many starters from last year. Poppinga aims to build on the previous year”s performance and capitalize on the increased talent available this season.

A key focus for the defense will be the young and talented defensive line, which now brings valuable experience as they head into 2026. This newfound experience is expected to enhance their performance compared to the previous year.

BYU has already announced the roster for the spring camp, adding 33 new names along with their respective positions. However, jersey numbers have yet to be assigned.
