Houston Cougars Schedule Official Visit with Four-Star DL Xavier Muhammad

The Houston Cougars are intensifying their recruitment efforts for the class of 2027 by scheduling an official visit with four-star defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad. The talented athlete from South Houston, Texas, is set to visit the Cougars from May 28 to May 30.

Currently a standout at South Houston High School, Muhammad is also planning visits to other prominent programs, including TCU, Miami, and Stanford. As a consensus top-20 defensive lineman, he has attracted considerable attention from various schools, with Arizona State and Oklahoma State also in pursuit. His status as a top-25 prospect in Texas adds significance to his upcoming trip to Houston.

The Cougars have made a strong impression on Muhammad, particularly with the emphasis head coach Dana Holgorsen places on in-state recruiting. Defensive line coach Oscar Giles and edge coach James Ross III have played key roles in securing this official visit during the early phases of his recruitment.

In a recent statement, Muhammad expressed his reasons for choosing to visit Houston, highlighting the program”s development track record. “The reason I wanted to lock in the official visit with Houston was the development they have there,” he said. “Also how the coaches treat me and how their defense plays, and I like the whole program overall.”

While numerous national programs are vying for his commitment, Muhammad has indicated that his decision will hinge on more than just depth charts and facilities. Factors such as coaching style, player relationships, and the overall campus atmosphere will significantly influence his choice. The Cougars believe they can meet these criteria, especially given the positive culture that Holgorsen has fostered in his nearly three years leading the program.

With the visit officially on the calendar, the Cougars aim to capitalize on this opportunity to strengthen their position in Muhammad”s recruitment. The coaching staff is keen on showcasing what the program has to offer, aiming to solidify their standing as one of his top choices moving forward.

Although the Cougars are in a favorable position due to Muhammad”s local ties, they still face competition from TCU and Miami, as well as rising interest from Texas Tech and SMU. As the recruitment process continues, the Cougars will need to maintain their momentum and demonstrate why Muhammad should choose to join their defensive line.
