Kristian Ingman has expressed enthusiasm about joining the Arizona State Sun Devils, particularly highlighting the influence of the coaching staff on his decision to transfer. The tight end, who previously played for the Portland State Vikings, is part of a strong group of incoming players that includes several four-star recruits, marking a significant achievement for head coach Kenny Dillingham.
During a recent interview with local media personality Brad Denny, Ingman shared his excitement about the opportunity to play in Tempe. He emphasized the personal approach taken by the coaching staff, particularly Jason Mohns, who has garnered respect for his recruiting style. Ingman noted, “Coach Mohns definitely sparks me coming here. I love the way that he recruited me. He felt very personal and told me how it is. He said I have a shot, but I have to work at it.” His appreciation for the direct communication and the invitation to join the program was evident.
Ingman also mentioned his positive interactions with other staff members, including those from both the offensive and defensive sides, as well as Josh Omura, the Director of Recruiting and Player Personnel. “I got to speak with damn near everybody. They”re all just great people, and they”re very inviting on my visit,” he said, reflecting on the welcoming atmosphere during his recruitment.
Mohns has made a name for himself as a vital member of the coaching staff, transitioning from a successful high school coaching career to shaping a position group that has not been a focal point in previous seasons. Ingman will be joining a talented tight end room that includes Anthony Miller from Tulane, as well as returning players like 6″6″ AJ Ia and senior Khamari Anderson. This group is expected to be one of the strongest on the roster as they head into the new season.
The contributions of Omura have also been significant, as he has taken on a role similar to that of a general manager, playing a key part in identifying talent that has been crucial in the Sun Devils” recent success, including their Big 12 championship in 2024 and 19 wins over the last two seasons. The excitement surrounding the program is palpable as they prepare for the upcoming season opener on September 5, when they will host Morgan State in Tempe.
