Javon Vital, a wide receiver from Lake Charles Hamilton Christian Academy, has narrowed his college options to three schools: the LSU Tigers, the USC Trojans, and the Houston Cougars. This decision was shared by the prospect via social media on Monday, indicating that the LSU Tigers and Lane Kiffin are actively pursuing the talented athlete from Louisiana.
Vital, who is currently ranked as the No. 10 prospect in Louisiana, has seen his recruiting profile skyrocket following an impressive two-year performance in high school football. During his sophomore season in 2024, the 5-foot-8, 170-pound receiver accumulated over 3,000 all-purpose yards and scored a remarkable 46 touchdowns. This includes 1,500 yards on the ground and 25 touchdowns.
In recent weeks, Vital”s recruitment has gained momentum, attracting interest from programs nationwide. He has received offers from several prominent teams, including the UCLA Bruins and Sacramento State Hornets, in addition to the LSU Tigers and USC Trojans.
Initially, Vital had planned to make his commitment announcement on October 16, but opted to delay the decision, pushing it back until after his junior season. With his final choice now between LSU, USC, and Houston, interest around his commitment is intensifying.
“I love the way they utilize players of my size and height,” Vital stated about LSU when speaking with Rivals. “They employ their athletes in various roles — out of the backfield, in the slot, outside, or even as a punt returner. They”re going to use me everywhere. My relationship with them is strong, and I stay in touch with my high school coach as well.”
The USC Trojans are also making a strong push for Vital as his recruitment heats up. “We communicate fairly often,” he noted regarding USC running backs coach Anthony Jones. “The coaching staff has maintained contact, and they really motivate you to excel.”
As the decision-making process continues, the spotlight is firmly on Vital as he prepares to announce his commitment among the elite programs vying for his athletic talents.
Meanwhile, LSU Football is experiencing a period of transition and rebuilding, with recent departures in the transfer portal quickly finding new destinations. With the college football landscape shifting, Vital”s choice will have implications not just for his future, but also for the programs competing for his commitment.
