Te”Sean Smoot Leads Alabama State to Victory Over Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Te”Sean Smoot showcased his talent on Saturday night, throwing for 271 yards and four touchdowns as Alabama State triumphed over Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a score of 44-13 in Montgomery, Alabama. This victory marked the beginning of a crucial two-game homestand for the Hornets as they look to conclude the regular season on a high note.

In the game, Marcus Harris II contributed significantly with a remarkable 50-yard touchdown run. Despite the win, Alabama State required a victory and needed Jackson State to lose in order to secure the hosting rights for the upcoming conference championship game scheduled for December 6. However, Jackson State disrupted those plans by defeating Alcorn State 27-21.

UAPB managed to score during their opening drive but struggled offensively, not scoring again until late in the third quarter, bringing the score to 30-13. In response, Smoot fired two touchdown passes in the final quarter, connecting with Manny Thompson for a 10-yard score and Asa Gregg for a 26-yard touchdown.

Additionally, Andrew Abu-Akel contributed to the scoreboard by successfully kicking field goals from 24, 33, and 43 yards, helping Alabama State to build a commanding lead. This victory was particularly significant, as it marked the second time in the program”s history that the Hornets reached nine wins, a feat last accomplished by the team in 1935.

As Alabama State prepares to close out the regular season, they will face Tuskegee in a nonconference matchup. The Hornets are looking to maintain their momentum and continue their strong performance as they head into the final stretch of the season.
