Texas A&M”s Mike Elko Praises 13 Players at NFL Combine

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko recently commented on the impressive achievement of sending a record 13 players to the NFL Combine. This milestone showcases the talent and hard work of the 2025 roster, which finished the season with an 11-2 record and secured a spot in the College Football Playoff.

In just his second season as head coach, Elko led the Aggies to their first 11-win season since the early 1990s. The team”s success is a testament to Elko”s recruiting prowess, as he has already assembled a promising 2026 class filled with top prospects. Additionally, the program has welcomed 17 transfers, notably including former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton.

On the opening day of the NFL Combine, senior defensive lineman Albert Regis made headlines with his outstanding performance. Regis recorded a remarkable 9-foot-8 broad jump, the highest among all defensive tackles present. He also clocked a 4.92 seconds in the 40-yard dash on his first attempt, followed by a 4.88 seconds on his second, ranking fifth among his peers. His quick 10-yard split of 1.73 seconds further demonstrated his explosive first step.

As Elko observed his players in Indianapolis, he took a moment to discuss the significance of their participation in the Combine. “I”m happy for our guys and excited for the representation of Texas A&M, but I”m also wondering how we”ll fix it next year with losing all these guys,” he remarked.

Elko emphasized the importance of the NFL Scouting Combine for players aspiring to advance their careers. “It”s great to see our guys out here. This is the hope of every college coach out there that you can have this kind of representation here on this stage. I just wanted to come up and support them the best I can,” he stated.

When discussing the changing landscape of college football due to NIL deals, Elko noted, “Their dreams are to go to the NFL, not make NIL money in college football. NIL has changed the landscape of everything, but kids are still wanting to be here and get to the next level.”

Reflecting on Regis”s development, Elko recalled, “I was there as a defensive coordinator when we recruited Al. We found him as a high school fullback that we thought could project as a really good defensive tackle. It was really awesome to see what he became.”

Elko also highlighted the crucial role of defensive linemen in the NFL, stating, “The ability to impact the quarterback is one thing that goes at every level. The more impactful you can be on the D line, the better team you”ll have. The teams that are most represented here on the D line all made the playoffs.”
