Top QB Prospect Peter Bourque Links to Penn State and Virginia Tech

The 2027 recruiting cycle is gaining momentum as top prospects begin to make key decisions regarding their college futures. Among the notable names is Peter Bourque, currently ranked as the No. 8 quarterback prospect. Recently, he announced his decommitment from Michigan, a decision that has sparked interest from two significant Power Four programs.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, Bourque hails from Massachusetts and had held his commitment to Michigan for over six months. His decommitment has opened the door for new opportunities, as evidenced by the offers he received from schools that previously had not pursued him. Both Rivals and 247Sports recognize him as a top-10 quarterback, while ESPN places him at No. 12 in the class.

According to Andrew Ivins, director of scouting at 247Sports, Bourque is a “towering pocket passer with a live arm,” noted for his impressive exit velocity, release points, and ball placement. With this skill set, it is clear why he is being sought after by various programs.

As Michigan looks to regroup, the Wolverines may need to turn their attention elsewhere for the 2027 quarterback position if they cannot regain Bourque”s commitment. Fortunately for them, they still have former five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who has three years of eligibility left, along with new recruits in three-star Brady Smigiel and four-star Tommy Carr.

During his commitment to Michigan, Bourque received multiple offers that caught his attention. Reports indicate that Penn State and Virginia Tech are now the frontrunners for his services. Bourque had previously visited Penn State several times but did not receive a scholarship offer until recently, following the hiring of new head coach Matt Campbell.

Campbell”s arrival has brought about a shift in the Nittany Lions” recruiting approach. He has already secured commitments from former Auburn quarterback Peyton Falzone and former Iowa State quarterback Kase Evans, enhancing the team”s depth for the upcoming season.

Interestingly, the head coach Bourque initially visited before Penn State extended an offer was James Franklin, who was let go in mid-October after a disappointing start in Big Ten play. Franklin was later hired by Virginia Tech, where he has brought in former Penn State transfer Ethan Grunkenmeyer as the starting quarterback. Virginia Tech, like Penn State, is currently without any commitments for the 2027 cycle, making Bourque an enticing target for both programs.

As the recruiting landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on Bourque as he weighs his options moving forward.
