UConn Triumphs Over Seton Hall, Continues Strong Big East Run

UConn achieved a significant victory over Seton Hall, winning 69-64 in a tightly contested game that showcased their resilience. This match, played in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday, marked a vital step in the Huskies” quest to overcome the challenges faced in the previous season.

With this win, UConn improved to 17-1 overall and maintained an undefeated 7-0 record in the Big East, a notable achievement as it is their best start in the conference since the 1998-99 season, which was also the year they clinched their first NCAA championship.

The game was particularly challenging for UConn, who at one point held an 18-point lead in the second half. However, they struggled to maintain control as Seton Hall mounted a comeback, employing a full-court press that forced UConn into 17 turnovers. “These guys STICK to you,” said UConn head coach Dan Hurley. “They”re very quick.”

Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with Seton Hall shooting just 1 of 16 from three-point range, while UConn managed a slightly better 3 of 17. The lone three-pointer for Seton Hall came late in the game from junior guard Mike Williams III, which cut UConn”s lead to two points with less than a minute remaining.

The Huskies” victory was their first at Seton Hall in nearly five years, ending a four-game losing streak at the Prudential Center. UConn”s Silas Demary Jr. sealed the win by hitting crucial free throws in the final seconds, bringing the final score to 69-64.

Despite the narrow margin, Hurley expressed confidence in his team, acknowledging the potential challenge posed by Seton Hall as they could be a contender for the NCAA tournament. “That”s a team that”s going to compete at the top of the league,” he noted. The Pirates were initially expected to struggle this season but have significantly improved, jumping 60 spots in KenPom”s ratings since October.

UConn”s performance, while not flawless, demonstrated their ability to win in tough situations. Hurley emphasized the importance of overcoming adversity as the team prepares for the remainder of the season. “We”ve shown some special qualities,” he remarked. “With our injuries and the schedule, and we”ve won well, but haven”t played as well.”

With a strong record on the road and a solid position in the conference, UConn aims to continue asserting their dominance in the Big East. The team”s upcoming games will be critical as they pursue their goal of securing another national title.
