University of Limerick Aims for History in Sigerson Cup Final Against UCC

The University of Limerick is poised to make history tonight as they compete against University College Cork in the Sigerson Cup final at Croke Park. This matchup marks a repeat of the 2023 final.

Led by coach David Power, UL arrives at this pivotal clash after overcoming significant challenges throughout the tournament. Their journey to the final has included some intense matches, showcasing their resilience and determination.

UL”s campaign began with a commanding victory over the 2025 champions DCU in Dublin, where they triumphed with a score of 1-18 to 0-12. Following that impressive performance, they faced Maynooth in the quarter-finals. Despite trailing late in the game, a last-minute goal from Daithí Hogan forced extra time. In the additional period, UL demonstrated their strength, eventually winning by eight points with a score of 3-16 to 0-17.

The semi-final against Queen”s University Belfast proved equally thrilling. Similar to the previous round, UL found themselves in need of a late-game surge. This time it was Cathal Brosnan who delivered a stunning goal, propelling them into extra time once again. UL maintained their momentum, finishing the match with a score of 3-23 to 2-21, securing their spot in the final.

University College Cork earned their place in tonight”s final after a narrow victory over the University of Galway, winning 1-11 to 1-8. The matchup is particularly significant as it mirrors last year”s final, where UCC emerged victorious, defeating UL with a score of 1-16 to 0-16 at the WIT Sports Campus in Waterford.

The final is set to kick off at 7:35 PM and will be broadcast live on TG4, promising an exciting showdown between these two talented teams.
