Virginia Tech Football Prepares for Early National Signing Period

The early national signing period for college football kicks off today, raising numerous questions about the future of Virginia Tech football. Fans and analysts alike are eager to discover which recruits will commit to the Hokies and which players may choose to depart. This three-day signing period is critical for Virginia Tech, as the team hopes to secure top talent.

One of the most anticipated recruits is Matt Sieg, who has narrowed his options down to five schools: Virginia Tech, Indiana, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Pitt. The Hokies are in a strong position, but competition remains. Reports indicate that Pitt and Indiana feel optimistic about their chances, while Notre Dame and Penn State are largely viewed as out of contention, with Penn State”s inclusion being more of a formality.

My prediction is that Sieg will choose Virginia Tech. In today”s environment, players often commit to coaches, and Sieg has a prior connection with James Franklin, who he originally committed to at Penn State. While I am not entirely certain, I feel confident about this outlook.

Another key target for the Hokies is Wiggins, ranked among the top 250 players in the class. Since the firing of James Franklin at Penn State, Wiggins has seen increased interest from numerous programs but has not officially decommitted yet. His final five schools include Virginia Tech, UNC, Colorado, West Virginia, and Penn State. Similar to Sieg, Penn State appears to be included for formality”s sake, and Wiggins is unlikely to choose them unless he is impressed with the new coaching hire. West Virginia and UNC are pushing hard for his commitment, but they face challenges due to Wiggins” original connection to Franklin. It seems Virginia Tech is in a favorable position to secure his commitment, particularly with Franklin making every effort to bring him aboard.

Polydor, a less publicized recruit, is another name to watch. He has not announced whether he will commit tomorrow, and there are no known finalists at this time. However, indications suggest that he is leaning toward Virginia Tech, where the staff is heavily pursuing the St. Frances defensive back.

On the other hand, Tyrell Grant, currently committed to Syracuse, reaffirmed his commitment just recently. Although there has been speculation regarding Virginia Tech”s interest, it appears the Hokies may not have a viable chance to recruit him. Meanwhile, Ford, who seems committed to Penn State, has not yet finalized his decision. As of now, Penn State is still without a head coach, which could delay Ford”s signing. If he opts to sign tomorrow, he might choose Virginia Tech instead, although it seems more likely he will wait until February.

Isaiah Pina has reiterated his commitment to Virginia Tech but will not be signing this month, opening the door for potential interest from other programs. Yet, his dedication shown by committing during a coaching transition suggests he may remain with the Hokies.

Lastly, Burrell has been on Virginia Tech”s radar since May and remains uncommitted. He has hinted at an upcoming commitment via social media. His self-reported offers include Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Boston College, UNC, Charlotte, Old Dominion, and Elon. His recruitment has been somewhat quiet recently, but his prior visits to Virginia Tech could indicate interest.

As this signing period unfolds, it will be crucial to keep an eye on potential surprises, as late developments can occur during this critical time in college football recruiting.
