Virginia Tech Set to Face Elon Before ACC Play Begins

Virginia Tech will conclude its non-conference schedule with a matchup against Elon today, prior to the start of ACC play against Virginia. Historically, the Hokies hold a 13-7 record against the Phoenix, dating back to their first meeting in 1914. The last encounter was in 2008, with Tech winning 12 out of 17 games played at Cassell Coliseum. A victory today would improve the Hokies” record to 11-2 before entering conference competition, mirroring their start from the 2022-23 season. This game also represents the opportunity for Tech to achieve its fifth consecutive win and extend its home winning streak to eight games at Carilion Clinic Court.

The game is scheduled for December 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM, and will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra. Fans can also tune in to the Virginia Tech Sports Network, featuring play-by-play from Zack Mackey and analyst Mike Burnop.

In their most recent game, the Hokies secured an impressive 82-53 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore, marking their fourth win by 20 points or more this season. The team showcased excellent ball distribution, collecting 24 assists on 31 field goals. Sophomore Izaiah Pasha stepped up significantly in place of Jailen Bedford, who was sidelined due to illness. Pasha”s performance included a season-high of seven points, six assists, and two steals in 27 minutes of play. His plus/minus rating of +24 was the highest among all players on the court.

Neo Avdalas has emerged as a key player for the Hokies, achieving his second 30-point game of the season against Western Carolina. In that game, he scored 30 points, with 24 coming in the second half, which included four three-pointers. His scoring prowess has placed him among the few ACC athletes to record multiple 30-point games this season, joining Duke”s Cameron Boozer in this feat. Over the weekend, Avdalas led the team again, scoring 16 points and providing seven assists, a performance that marked the eighth time this season he has recorded five or more assists. Defensively, he also contributed with three steals, a season best.

Throughout the week, Avdalas averaged 23 points while shooting 54% from the field. His consistent performance has led to him being recognized multiple times as the ACC Player of the Week, joining the ranks of Virginia Tech players like Jeff Allen and Landers Nolley.

The Hokies will aim to secure another victory today against Elon before shifting their focus to their significant rivalry with Virginia. The upcoming game marks an important juncture in their season as they prepare for the challenges that lie ahead in the ACC.
