West Virginia University has made significant strides in improving its offensive line by securing two transfers late Thursday night. After a disappointing loss to Arizona State, head coach Rich Rodriguez expressed frustration over the team”s inability to gain critical yardage, emphasizing the need for an upgraded offensive line. This prompted a focused effort to address the issue through the transfer portal.
In a noteworthy move, Cameron Griffin, an offensive lineman from Jacksonville State, has reportedly committed to WVU. Griffin, who played under Rodriguez during his time there, has been a steady contributor since his freshman year, participating in 12 games primarily on special teams. He advanced to a starting guard position in his sophomore season, excelling by not allowing a single sack on 45 pass plays. His performance in 2025 further solidified his reputation, as he played multiple positions including left tackle, guard, and center, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors.
Following Griffin”s commitment, Carsten Casady from UConn also made headlines by signing with the Mountaineers. Casady had a strong redshirt freshman season, appearing in nine games at both right guard and center. His impact continued into the 2025 season, where he participated in all 12 games, totaling 774 snaps without allowing a sack throughout his college career.
Rodriguez”s recruitment strategy aims to build a formidable offensive line, particularly after WVU”s struggles last season, which saw the team allow the second-most sacks in the Big 12. The addition of Griffin and Casady complements the talents of transfers like Wes King from Wyoming, who also boasts a sack-free record. Returning players such as Nick Krahe and Landen Livingston have similarly shown strong performances, each allowing only one sack in their previous season.
The physical presence of this new offensive line is impressive, with Casady standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 300 pounds, while Griffin measures 6-foot-4 and weighs 305 pounds.
