PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Zevi Eckhaus demonstrated his skills as he threw a touchdown pass and added two rushing touchdowns, leading Washington State to a commanding 28-3 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday night.
Eckhaus initiated the scoring for Washington State (5-5) with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Meredith on their opening drive, giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. He later extended the lead to 14-0 with a 7-yard rushing touchdown on a quarterback keeper.
In the second quarter, Drew Henderson attempted a 56-yard field goal on the final play of the half, but a penalty on Washington State allowed him to retry. He successfully converted a 51-yard field goal, putting Louisiana Tech (5-5) on the scoreboard.
In the fourth quarter, Eckhaus scored again on a 1-yard run, capping a lengthy 14-play, 66-yard drive that consumed 8:39 of the clock. Kirby Vorhees closed out the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown run with just over a minute remaining, finishing the game with 76 yards on 16 carries.
Eckhaus completed 17 of 25 passes for 146 yards and added 56 rushing yards on 11 carries. In contrast, the Bulldogs struggled offensively, accumulating only 167 total yards, with 107 coming from their ground game.
