Cowboys” Road Struggles Continue with Loss to Lions

The Cowboys faced another setback on the road, suffering a 44-30 defeat to the Lions in Detroit. Despite their improved defense compared to earlier in the season, the team allowed 44 points, a troubling sign as they aim to establish themselves as a formidable force in the NFL.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed disappointment, noting, “We let an opportunity to win a game on the road against a good team get away from us.” The Cowboys fell short in crucial areas, including turnovers, where they lost 3-0. Dak Prescott, although throwing for 376 yards, faced significant pressure, being sacked five times and throwing two interceptions.

The Cowboys” road record now stands at 2-5, with their victories coming against the Jets and Raiders, teams not regarded as top contenders. The remaining road games against Washington on December 25 and the Giants on January 4 raise questions about when the Cowboys might secure another win away from home, with many believing it could push into 2026.

For much of the game, the Lions controlled the tempo, scoring on eight of eleven possessions. They exploited the Cowboys” defense effectively, with quarterback Jared Goff completing 34 passes for 309 yards without facing significant setbacks, a stark contrast to the defensive performance seen against the Eagles and Chiefs.

The Cowboys” slow start has been a recurring issue. They trailed the Eagles 21-0 before orchestrating a comeback that reignited playoff hopes. However, their latest loss against the Lions has dampened those aspirations, especially with the current wild card standings showing no team with a record worse than 8-3-1.

After a short break, the Cowboys will host the Vikings on December 14. This matchup could present a chance to elevate their season record, but the urgency for improvement continues to mount as the playoffs loom closer.
