Dolphins Aim to Continue Momentum Against Commanders in Madrid

The Dolphins have arrived in Madrid, gearing up for their matchup against the Washington Commanders as they look to capitalize on the momentum from their recent victory over the Buffalo Bills. With a record of 3-7, the Dolphins achieved a significant 30-13 win last week, marking one of their strongest performances of the season.

Head Coach Mike McDaniel is eager to replicate that success this Sunday in the Spanish capital, emphasizing the boost in confidence that his players gained from their last game. “I think more than anything, the team needed to feel the complete execution of a three-phase football game,” McDaniel stated. He believes that the focus should be on their own performance rather than the opponent, underscoring the importance of continuing to play to their strengths.

Despite facing a Commanders team that has lost five consecutive games, McDaniel warns against complacency. “I think right now, in the National Football League, you run yourself into trouble if you look past anyone,” he remarked. “The parity is so real that every game you have to earn your victory, and if you look at more than the next game, it”s usually a recipe for failure.”

Last week”s victory ended a seven-game losing streak against the Bills, with Tua Tagovailoa throwing for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, De”Von Achane contributed two rushing touchdowns, while the defense excelled with three takeaways and three sacks. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler emphasized the need to maintain focus and consistency: “When you make those corrections and things start to click, you”ve got to make sure to lock in and copy, paste, repeat.”

The upcoming game marks the seventh NFL match played internationally this season, a record for the league as it expands its global reach. The Dolphins will be participating in their eighth regular-season game abroad, trailing only the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have played fourteen. This game will also be Tagovailoa”s third international appearance.

Tagovailoa expressed excitement about the opportunity to explore a new culture during their travels. “Being able to travel internationally and visit different cultures I think is a cool thing,” he said, sharing his experiences of exploring the city and its sights. However, he also acknowledged the challenge of adjusting to the six-hour time difference from Miami.

Fullback Alec Ingold highlighted the camaraderie that comes with traveling as a team. “Trying to get out of that jet lag is definitely a challenge, as is losing some of the preparation hours in the week,” he noted, emphasizing that being together fosters communication and strengthens team bonds.
