Brock Purdy Dismisses Idea of Ignoring Kyle Shanahan”s Play Calls

The San Francisco 49ers are demonstrating that their offensive unit is peaking just in time for the NFL playoffs, largely due to the impressive performance of quarterback Brock Purdy. In their latest game, Purdy showcased his skills against the Indianapolis Colts, amassing 295 passing yards and throwing five touchdowns, with only one interception, in a commanding 48-27 victory during Week 16″s “Monday Night Football” at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Despite facing a minor headset issue during the game, Purdy”s performance remained unaffected. In a recent press availability, Sports Illustrated”s Grant Cohn inquired whether Purdy had ever contemplated disregarding a play call from head coach Kyle Shanahan. Purdy firmly replied, “No. No, I do not. Kyle has great play calls. No, Grant.”

This response underscores Purdy”s respect for Shanahan”s strategy. When pressed further about whether he ever finds a play unappealing, Purdy reiterated his trust in the coach”s decisions.

From being the last player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft to emerging as a Pro Bowl quarterback for a Super Bowl contender, Purdy”s journey has been remarkable. His success is attributed to the way he has been nurtured by Shanahan and the coaching staff of the 49ers. While he is always inclined to heed Shanahan”s directives, Purdy”s experience and intelligence enable him to make independent decisions when necessary.

Currently on a five-game winning streak and with a shot at clinching the top seed in the NFC, the 49ers are eager to continue their momentum as they prepare to face the Chicago Bears at Levi”s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, in Week 17.
