CeeDee Lamb, the talented wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, has recently expressed his support for teammate George Pickens, who is currently navigating the final weeks of his contract. Pickens has indicated a willingness to negotiate “the ultimate best deal when it helps everybody,” aiming to remain with the Cowboys at least through the 2026 season.
In August 2024, Lamb signed a lucrative four-year, $136 million deal, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league. On Wednesday, he shared his thoughts on the potential scenario where he might earn less than Pickens if the latter secures a new contract with the team. “I don”t care about that,” Lamb stated, according to Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys” official website. “I just want my man to get what he deserves. As for me, I know I”m good. I”m fine. Me and my family, we”re straight, and I just want to compete at the highest level, and I want to compete for a ring.”
Quarterback Dak Prescott has also been vocal in advocating for a new deal for Pickens, urging team owner and general manager Jerry Jones to prioritize negotiations with the young receiver. However, reports have surfaced indicating that no discussions have yet taken place between the Cowboys and Pickens” agent regarding a new contract. The Cowboys could retain Pickens” rights through the franchise tag, which is projected to be worth approximately $28.8 million starting February 17.
Pickens has certainly made an impact during his time with the Cowboys, finishing the regular season ranked third in the NFL with 1,429 receiving yards, eighth with 93 receptions, and tied for eighth with nine touchdown catches. Lamb is keen to see his teammate rewarded for his contributions. “The money will come if you play good, so just play good and let everything else take care of itself,” he added. “As for GP, he”s well deserving. He deserves every penny that he gets. And if he gets more than me, I”m going to congratulate him on that.”
Pickens has made it clear he is “willing to do anything” to stay with the Cowboys, though it remains uncertain whether that includes participating in the offseason program while under the franchise tag.
