Chase Brown has the opportunity to achieve a significant milestone on Thursday night as the Cincinnati Bengals face off against the Baltimore Ravens. He is one game away from setting a franchise record by recording at least 100 scrimmage yards in six consecutive games. Currently, Brown is tied with three other players, including himself, for five consecutive games with 100 or more scrimmage yards.
Brown”s impressive streak began last year when he gained 143 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11, continuing through Week 16. The previous Bengals players to achieve five consecutive games of this feat include A.J. Green (Weeks 6-10 in 2013), BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Weeks 11-15 in 2012), and Cedric Benson (final three games of 2008 and first two games of 2009). Notably, the Bengals are one of only two teams in the NFL that have never had a player reach 100 scrimmage yards in six straight games, the other being the Cleveland Browns.
This season, Brown has been on fire, beginning his current streak with 100 yards (108 rushing and minus-8 receiving) against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7. His performances over the following weeks include: Week 8 against the New York Jets with 105 yards (73 rushing, 32 receiving), Week 9 against the Chicago Bears with 112 yards (37 rushing, 75 receiving), Week 11 against the Steelers with 127 yards (99 rushing, 28 receiving), and Week 12 against the New England Patriots with 130 yards (107 rushing, 23 receiving).
The Ravens, whom the Bengals will encounter on Thursday night, have allowed players to exceed 100 scrimmage yards in four of their last five games. This includes performances by Breece Hall, Jalen Nailor, De”Von Achane, and Rome Odunze, as well as eight instances overall this season.
Since the 1970 merger, the NFL record for the most consecutive games with 100+ scrimmage yards is held by Marcus Allen, who achieved 17 games from 1985-86. Following him are Lydell Mitchell with 16 games and both Barry Sanders and David Johnson with 15 games each. Currently, Brown”s five-game streak is the longest active streak in the league. If he manages to extend this to six games against the Ravens, he will join the ranks of 99 players since the merger who have accomplished a streak of six or more games.
Additionally, should Brown succeed, he will become the second Bengals player to set a franchise record in as many games, following Evan McPherson, who made a 63-yard field goal against the Patriots. Other Bengals who have reached four consecutive games with 100+ scrimmage yards include Rudi Johnson, Corey Dillon, Carl Pickens, and Boobie Clark.
