The Dallas Cowboys will be without their top two running backs, Javonte Williams and Malik Davis, for their final game of the season against the New York Giants. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed before Friday”s practice that adjustments would be necessary for the game day roster as they prepare for Sunday”s matchup.
In total, five players have been ruled out due to injuries, including rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, both of whom are dealing with concussions. Furthermore, guard T.J. Bass, who has started in the last two games, will also miss the contest due to a knee injury.
With the backfield in need of immediate adjustments, rookie running back Jaydon Blue is expected to see significant playing time. Blue will be activated for the game, marking his first action since October 26. The only other healthy running back on the roster is fullback Hunter Luepke. Additionally, rookie running back Phil Mafah, who has been on injured reserve for the entire season, may also be a candidate for activation following the opening of his practice window.
Mafah has been listed as questionable for the game, along with defensive end Payton Turner and cornerback Josh Butler, both of whom have faced injury issues throughout the year and have not yet played. To fill the void left by Bass, the Cowboys could opt to start Brock Hoffman, who has started 15 games over the past three seasons.
The team must finalize their roster moves and any practice squad elevations by Saturday afternoon, with the list of active players being announced 90 minutes before Sunday”s kickoff. This game against the Giants presents an opportunity for the Cowboys to close out the season on a high note despite the injuries they are facing.
As the Cowboys prepare for their matchup, the focus will be on how the team responds to these absences and whether they can secure a final victory this season.
