D”Andre Swift, the starting running back for the Chicago Bears, is anticipated to return to action this week after missing the previous game due to a groin injury. Reports indicate that Swift is “expected to play” in the upcoming matchup against the New York Giants, and he is likely to reclaim his starting position, according to ESPN”s Adam Schefter.
Swift”s return is a significant boost for the Bears, especially considering he is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career. In seven games this season, Swift has amassed 464 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns on 100 carries, achieving an impressive average of 4.6 yards per attempt. Furthermore, he has also been productive in the passing game, tallying 18 receptions for 192 yards and one touchdown.
Despite his expected return, there are indications that Swift may not carry the full workload immediately. Rookie running back Kyle Monangai, who was selected in the seventh round, stepped up admirably during Swift”s absence. He recorded 176 rushing yards on 26 carries against a struggling Cincinnati Bengals defense. While it”s unlikely he can sustain such high efficiency over the long term, Monangai has still accumulated a commendable 362 rushing yards and one touchdown in the first eight games of the season.
The Bears will likely find opportunities on the ground against the Giants, whose defense has shown vulnerabilities. Although first-round pick Jaxson Dart has shown flashes of potential, the Giants overall lack the depth in talent to match the Bears” offensive capabilities. With Swift back in the lineup, fans can expect him to have a productive game, potentially finding the end zone once again. Monangai may see some carries as well, but he will likely remain in a supporting role for now.
