The Los Angeles Rams secured a 42-26 victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but the win was marred by an injury to wide receiver Davante Adams. Late in the fourth quarter, Adams exited the game due to an oblique injury after running a route.
Head coach Sean McVay indicated that the veteran receiver could have returned if necessary. “He got his oblique. I think he could have been able to come back in if it was a little bit closer,” McVay stated during the post-game press conference.
During the fourth quarter, Adams appeared to feel discomfort as he reached for his lower back on the left side. After leaving the field, he was seen conversing with vice president of sports performance Reggie Scott. Adams attempted to return to the coaching staff, signaling his readiness, but Scott intervened and took him to the injury tent.
“It was biting a little bit in the game, but it”s feeling better now,” Adams mentioned after the game. “And we”ll see how it feels next week.”
Despite his early exit, Adams led the Rams in receiving, finishing with six catches for 77 yards and securing his sixth touchdown in just three games. His touchdown reception was a result of a well-executed play, where he and receiver Puka Nacua performed a scissor action. Adams lined up in the slot and broke outside, with quarterback Matthew Stafford delivering a precise throw that allowed Adams to make the catch without interference from safety Malik Mustapha.
“You really felt his presence early and often in the game,” McVay said, highlighting Adams” impact on the field.
