Davante Adams Leaves Game Against 49ers with Oblique Injury

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams exited the team”s 42-26 victory over the San Francisco 49ers due to an oblique injury. The incident occurred during the fourth quarter as he was running a route, prompting him to reach for his lower back on the left side of his torso.

After the game, Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated that Adams, a veteran with 12 years of experience, likely could have returned to the field if the game situation had warranted it. “He got his oblique. I think he could have been able to come back in if it was a little bit closer,” McVay stated.

During the fourth quarter, Adams halted his route and showed signs of discomfort, leading to his departure from the field. He took a seat on the bench to discuss the situation with the team”s vice president of sports performance, Reggie Scott. Following this, Adams attempted to inform the coaching staff of his readiness to return. However, Scott intercepted him, and Adams eventually followed him to the blue medical tent after bending over with his hands on his knees.

“It was biting a little bit in the game, but it”s feeling better now,” Adams commented post-game. “And we”ll see how it feels next week.”

Despite his early exit, Adams was a significant contributor to the Rams” offense, leading the team with eight targets and six receptions for 77 yards, including his sixth touchdown in three games. His touchdown catch came on a well-executed play where he and fellow receiver Puka Nacua executed a scissor route, with Adams breaking outside from the slot. Quarterback Matthew Stafford delivered a throw that was perfectly placed away from safety Malik Mustapha, allowing Adams to secure the catch.

McVay noted, “You really felt his presence early and often in the game,” underscoring Adams” impact on the field prior to his injury.
