Dolphins Bid Farewell to Longtime Players Jason Sanders and Alec Ingold

The Miami Dolphins have officially parted ways with two of their most enduring players, kicker Jason Sanders and fullback Alec Ingold, following a combined twelve seasons with the organization. This decision was announced on Friday.

Sanders, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, made a significant impact during his tenure, featuring in 116 games. He earned All-Pro honors in 2020 after converting 36 of 39 field goal attempts that season, including eight of nine from at least 50 yards. His impressive 84.6 field goal percentage stands as the best in franchise history, while his total of 826 points ranks third among all Dolphins players. Notably, he holds the franchise record for the most consecutive field goals made, with 27.

Reflecting on his journey, Sanders expressed gratitude in an Instagram post, stating, “To the Miami Dolphins organization, coaches, staff, and teammates, after eight amazing years in Miami, it is hard to put into words what this journey has meant to me.” He highlighted his love for the team and the memories created at Hard Rock Stadium.

One of Sanders” most memorable performances came on December 24, 2023, when he successfully made five field goals in a critical 22-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, securing a playoff berth for Miami. His clutch kicks, including a game-winning field goal as time expired, showcased his ability to perform under pressure. Sanders also contributed to the Dolphins” playoff push in the previous year, successfully making three field goals in a win against the New York Jets.

Ingold, a three-time team captain, also took to social media to share his thoughts about his time in Miami. He joined the Dolphins as a free agent in 2022 after spending three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. He signed a two-year contract worth $6.5 million, later extending it for three more years and $12.2 million after being selected to the Pro Bowl in 2023.

Although his statistics might not fully reflect his contributions, Ingold”s leadership and impact on the field were evident. He scored his first rushing touchdown during a 31-27 victory over the Detroit Lions on October 30, 2022, yet never had more than 21 touches in a season. His leadership qualities earned him nominations for the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, recognizing his commitment to the South Florida community.

Ingold shared his appreciation for the fans and community, stating, “From the moment we arrived, you welcomed me and my family with open arms. I”m grateful for the fans, the community, my teammates, coaches, and support staff whom made our time here purposeful.” He emphasized that while this chapter is closing, the respect and appreciation for the organization will remain.

As the Dolphins move forward, the contributions of both Sanders and Ingold will be remembered fondly by fans and teammates alike.
