“The Cowboys are crafting a detailed free agency plan to bolster their defense,” Fowler noted in his recent column. “The new scheme under coordinator Christian Parker needs replenishment. Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean is someone to watch as a green-dot player in the middle of the defense.”
Fowler added that while the Cowboys are considering various options among pass-rush free agents, they are also looking to fill other defensive gaps, including the safety position and a nickel cornerback, particularly since they have missed Jourdan Lewis since his departure.
Additionally, Calvin Watkins from The Dallas Morning News echoed this interest, highlighting Dean”s potential fit within Parker”s newly structured defense. “As the Cowboys begin the process of providing upgrades for new defensive coordinator Christian Parker”s unit, a name has emerged for one of the inside linebacker spots: Nakobe Dean,” Watkins reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
Dean, who was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft, had a challenging previous season, participating in ten games after recovering from a torn patellar tendon sustained in a playoff match the prior year. His standout season came in 2024, where he achieved a career-high of 128 tackles.
