Emari Demercado”s Offseason Profile and Contract Status for 2026

The offseason for the Arizona Cardinals is approaching, with the 2026 league year set to commence on March 11. The legal negotiation period will start a couple of days earlier on March 9. As the Cardinals prepare for numerous roster decisions, a detailed review of each player on the team is underway. Today, we turn our attention to running back Emari Demercado.

During the 2025 season, Demercado experienced a mix of highs and lows, highlighted by a notably memorable moment for unfortunate reasons. He had a 71-yard run that was initially ruled a 72-yard touchdown until it was determined he had lost the ball just before reaching the end zone. Despite this setback, he played in 13 games and achieved career-best numbers in total yards and rushing yards. He recorded 312 rushing yards on an impressive average of 7.1 yards per carry. Additionally, he caught 13 passes for 101 yards and one touchdown. However, his season was marred by mistakes, including a dropped touchdown in Week 4 and a fumble in Week 5, which contributed to two losses for the team.

As for his contract status, Demercado, who has completed three seasons since signing as a rookie free agent, is set to become a restricted free agent. This status allows the Cardinals the option to extend a tender offer, enabling them to match any proposals he might receive from other teams. However, it remains uncertain if the Cardinals will choose to extend that tender.

Looking ahead to the offseason, Demercado has established himself as a valuable asset, particularly on special teams and as a backup running back. His ability to block effectively, catch passes, and make explosive plays has been evident. Nevertheless, with a new offensive coaching staff in place, his future with the team is unclear. There is a strong possibility he may secure a one or two-year contract worth slightly above the league minimum with another franchise during this offseason.
