In a historic turn of events, Hamilton sophomore wide receiver Roye Oliver III has been named the Friday Night Fever Offensive Player of the Year, marking the first time in 35 seasons that a player in their first or second year has achieved this honor. This breakthrough comes after Oliver”s exceptional performance led Hamilton to the Open Division semifinals in 2025.
Oliver established himself as a dynamic force on the field, consistently outpacing defenses throughout the season. “Like nobody can stop me. That”s how I feel,” he stated confidently. “I feel like when I have the ball in my hand, I can just go and make a play.”
A notable aspect of Oliver”s success has been his remarkable rapport with his quarterback, fellow sophomore Jax Sculley. The two formed a formidable partnership, amassing over 1,800 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns together, both of which set new records for the single-season 6A category.
Oliver”s potential has been recognized for some time, with many predicting his rise in the Valley. He credits his growth to former professional player Jaelen Strong, who mentored him during his youth. “That I would be the best receiver in the country, and I”m pretty much showing it now. Seeing the trust he had in me was crazy,” Oliver reflected on Strong”s encouragement.
The accolades haven”t stopped for Oliver, who has already received an impressive 18 Division I scholarship offers before turning 18. His father, R.J. Oliver, outlined their strategic approach to his football career, stating, “Phase one was youth ball. Phase two is high school, where we”re at right now. Phase three is collegiate ball. Then phase four is NFL.”
As the Phoenix area continues to thrive with its major professional sports teams, including the NFL”s Arizona Cardinals and the NBA”s Phoenix Suns, Roye Oliver III stands out as a promising talent ready to make his mark in football.
