J.J. McCarthy Injured During Vikings Game Against Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — J.J. McCarthy exited the Minnesota Vikings” matchup against the New York Giants on Sunday due to an injury to his right, throwing hand. The team confirmed he would not return to the game.

McCarthy suffered the injury when he was hit hard by unblocked pass rusher Brian Burns during a strip sack with just 24 seconds left in the first half. Following the play, which resulted in a fumble recovery and a touchdown for the Giants, the 22-year-old quarterback walked off the field accompanied by trainers.

Rookie backup Max Brosmer came in to replace McCarthy and took a knee to end Minnesota”s final play before halftime. Prior to his exit, McCarthy completed 9 of 14 passes for 108 yards, scored a touchdown, and nearly threw an interception that could have been returned for a touchdown.

This injury marks another setback for McCarthy, who missed a game earlier last month while in concussion protocol. He also dealt with a sprained right ankle after his entire rookie season was cut short due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.

The Vikings, with a record of 6-8, were already eliminated from playoff contention before their victory over Dallas last weekend. Meanwhile, the Giants, sitting at 2-12, are currently enduring an eight-game losing streak.
