The Arizona Cardinals have confirmed that Jacoby Brissett will take the field as the starting quarterback this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. This decision was announced following a solid performance from Brissett in the team”s recent 27-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed confidence in Brissett”s abilities, stating, “As relates to the quarterback in Seattle, Jacoby will start. And Kyler will keep working on his health bucket. I do like what the offense is doing right now, we”ve operated well and we”ll go from there.” This indicates that Kyler Murray, who is currently sidelined due to a foot injury, will not be returning to action just yet.
Brissett has shown impressive form, throwing for two touchdowns and adding a rushing score in the latest game with Murray out. This marks his third consecutive start, despite initial expectations that Murray might be ready to come back after the team”s bye week. Gannon noted that Murray was not fully prepared to return.
The Cardinals” record stands at 3-5, with the team managing only two wins in their last 18 games when Murray did not participate significantly. Gannon reflected on the struggles, saying, “Nothing”s changed,” when pressed about Brissett”s role as the starter. Murray, who was the first overall pick in the 2019 draft, has an impressive track record at AT&T Stadium, but Brissett now holds a victory against the Cowboys.
Brissett, when asked about his place in the team, remarked, “I don”t get into that stuff, man. I”m just trying to go out here and win games and be a good teammate. And do the best I can when I get my opportunities. That”s all I can ask for.”
The Cardinals began their season strong with a 2-0 start but have since faced a tough stretch, losing five consecutive games by a narrow margin of 13 points. Gannon acknowledged the weight of these losses, stating, “At the bye, I was sitting in the shower, thinking about, “How did I let this happen?” Everybody in there takes that attitude.”
The upcoming matchup against the Seahawks is scheduled for 2 PM on Sunday, and the Cardinals will look to build on their recent success with Brissett under center.
