Jesse Clark has been reappointed as captain of the Werribee Tigers for a second consecutive season in the Victorian Football League. The announcement came ahead of the club”s first practice match, revealing a blend of familiar and new faces within the leadership group.
Entering his seventh season with the Tigers, Clark made a significant impact during his inaugural year as captain. He participated in all 18 matches, achieving career-best averages in disposals, kicks, and rebound 50s, ultimately finishing sixth in the Bruce Montgomery Trophy count.
Clark expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “I am honored to be given the role. It”s a massive privilege to captain such a great club, so I”m pumped for what”s to come for 2026 and absolutely looking forward to it.”
New senior coach Dan Lowther endorsed Clark”s leadership, calling him the standout choice for the position. “Jesse sets high standards through his behaviors both on and off the field and is looking to further develop his leadership style,” Lowther noted. He added that the playing group and the entire Werribee football program hold Clark in high regard, expressing eagerness for the season to commence in 23 days.
Supporting Clark will be a seasoned leadership group, with Dom Brew stepping in as vice-captain and Louis Pinnuck named deputy vice-captain. Additionally, forward Jay Dahlhaus returns to the leadership group for his second year. New to the leadership core is Charlie Lazzaro, who arrives at Werribee with over 40 games of AFL experience and is a junior football teammate of Clark.
The Werribee Tigers are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting season, with Clark at the helm, aiming to lead the team to new heights.
