New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields is under fire after a disappointing outing against the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Fields, who joined the Jets in the offseason, has had a mixed season, and the criticism intensified following the Jets” 27-14 defeat.
Fields did initially put the Jets on the scoreboard with a five-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. However, as the game progressed, his impact diminished significantly. After the game, former Jets guard Willie Colon did not hold back on SNY”s Jets Post Game Live, lambasting Fields for his lack of effectiveness throughout the match.
Colon questioned the decision of head coach Aaron Glenn to stick with Fields in the second half, especially with the team trailing 14-7. While Fields led the Jets with 67 rushing yards on 11 carries, his passing was notably ineffective. He completed only 15 of 26 passes, totaling 116 yards along with a single touchdown.
Despite the criticism from Colon and others, Glenn defended Fields, highlighting his leadership and contributions to the team. The Jets had managed to break a seven-game losing streak with two consecutive wins prior to the loss to New England. Unfortunately for New York, this defeat leaves their season record at a troubling 2-8.
The Jets will need to regroup quickly as they look to improve their standing in the league and salvage the remainder of the season.
