Jets Quarterback Justin Fields Placed on Season-Ending Injured Reserve

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields has been placed on injured reserve, officially ending his season with just two weeks remaining in the NFL regular season. Head coach Aaron Glenn made the announcement on Tuesday, confirming that Fields” campaign is over.

The 26-year-old quarterback had hoped to return to action, previously stating that his knee injury was “more of a week-to-week thing.” Fields played nine games during his first season with the Jets, achieving a record of 2-7 while completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,259 yards, with seven touchdowns and one interception.

After being benched in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor last month, Fields suffered a knee injury during practice on December 3 while serving as the backup. His last appearance on the field came on November 13 during a Thursday Night Football game against the New England Patriots in Week 11. Following that game, he has been inactive for Weeks 14 through 16.

Fields joins fellow teammate Garrett Wilson in being sidelined for the rest of the season. Wilson, the star wide receiver, had already missed five weeks on injured reserve due to a knee issue before the Jets opted to end his season to prevent any further risks.

As the Jets head into Week 17 with a disappointing 3-12 record, they find themselves fourth in the AFC East and have already been eliminated from playoff contention for the fifteenth consecutive season. The Jets are scheduled to host the Patriots on Sunday.
