Joe Burrow Fully Participates in Bengals Practice for First Time Since Injury

The Cincinnati Bengals received encouraging news as quarterback Joe Burrow participated fully in practice on Wednesday, marking a significant step in his recovery from a turf toe injury. This was the first instance since he was hurt on September 14 during a game against Jacksonville that he has been able to practice at full capacity. The team”s injury report confirmed his participation.

Burrow”s return to complete drills included his involvement in 11-on-11 activities, a crucial aspect of his rehabilitation process. Currently, he is operating within a 21-day practice window that permits him to engage without being activated to the main roster. Head coach Zac Taylor commented on the situation, emphasizing the importance of Burrow”s practice sessions before making any final decisions regarding his return. “Until we get through some practices, there”s no reason for me to even speculate on that,” Taylor stated.

The Pro Bowl quarterback has set his sights on a potential return around Thanksgiving, after undergoing surgery that sidelined him for the last seven games. However, after Wednesday”s practice, Burrow did not provide a specific timeline for his comeback. Previously, he noted that the Bengals” performance could influence his decision to return, as the team has struggled recently, losing seven of their last eight games and entering a home matchup against the New England Patriots on a three-game losing streak.

“Right now, he”s of the mindset that he wants to play football for us,” Taylor remarked on Monday, indicating that the team”s ongoing evaluation of Burrow”s rehabilitation will dictate next steps.

Meanwhile, quarterback Joe Flacco, who has been starting in Burrow”s absence, is managing a sprained right shoulder. Flacco, a veteran of the league, has dealt with the injury since the end of Week 9. Despite the challenges, he has maintained a solid performance, completing 63.4% of his passes for a total of 1,453 yards, along with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions, although the team has only secured one victory in five games.

Flacco acknowledged that thoughts about the future have crossed his mind, particularly regarding his position with the Bengals. “It”s in your head a little bit to a certain extent,” he said, referring to the uncertainty of his status. Nevertheless, he remains focused on his preparation, believing this experience could bolster his chances of continuing as a starting quarterback in the league. “Hopefully it reinforces it in somebody”s mind that I can do it,” Flacco expressed.

As the Bengals navigate this challenging season, the return of Burrow could significantly impact their pursuit of improved performance in the weeks ahead.
