The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for their playoff opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on January 11, and quarterback Josh Allen is expected to be fully healthy. This matchup marks Allen”s 136th consecutive start and his 14th appearance in the playoffs. After a right foot injury sustained on December 21 during a game against the Cleveland Browns, there were concerns about his condition as the postseason approached.
However, Allen does not carry any injury designation ahead of the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. In a positive sign, he completed a full week of practice leading up to the NFL Wild Card Weekend, suggesting that the rest he received last week was beneficial. “Just coming out here with the guys, trying to have a good week of practice,” Allen stated during a press conference in Orchard Park. He emphasized the importance of preparation and execution come game day, adding, “Sunday, 1 o”clock, we”re doing everything we can do to be ready for that.”
Despite previous indications of soreness in Weeks 16 and 17, Allen has reassured fans that the foot issue has not hindered him. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport echoed this sentiment earlier in the week, confirming, “QB Josh Allen”s foot is as healthy as it”s been in a while.” This statement brings relief to Bills supporters as they hope for a strong playoff performance.
Throughout his playoff career, Allen has demonstrated remarkable consistency, averaging 309.8 yards of total offense per game, which is the highest in NFL history for quarterbacks with at least 10 playoff starts. He has also achieved a 65.7 percent completion rate with 25 touchdown passes against just four interceptions. Moreover, his postseason contributions include seven rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown.
Head coach Sean McDermott has noted Allen”s focused approach as the playoffs begin. “This is how he is every year this time of year. He”s very dialed in, very focused. Really focused and honed in on his process and what he needs to do,” McDermott remarked before practice.
As the Bills aim for a deep playoff run, the health and performance of their star quarterback will be crucial in their pursuit of a Super Bowl championship.
