Kirk Herbstreit, a prominent commentator for ESPN college football and Amazon Prime NFL, has identified Ty Simpson as the leading quarterback prospect for the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, should he decide to declare.
Simpson is set to become eligible for the draft at the conclusion of the current season, presenting him with a prime opportunity to further bolster his draft stock as Alabama remains in contention for both the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff.
In a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Herbstreit shared his thoughts on why Simpson stands out among his peers. “I would say Ty Simpson,” he stated. “He”s not sexy. He is not going to go to the combine, like look at this guy, but he seems to be a guy that has an ability to read, recognize coverage, process, ball out. He can move around just enough to be dangerous, to keep plays alive.”
This season, Simpson has made impressive contributions on the field, throwing for 2,461 yards and completing 21 touchdown passes, with just one interception. Despite not having jaw-dropping physical attributes, Herbstreit believes Simpson possesses the essential skills to succeed as a quarterback in the NFL.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Simpson as he aims to solidify his status as the top quarterback candidate for the draft. With significant games ahead, his performance could heavily influence perceptions and expectations regarding his professional future.
