LeSean McCoy Questions Jalen Hurts” Impact on Eagles” Offense

Former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has voiced serious concerns regarding the team”s offensive performance this season, particularly focusing on quarterback Jalen Hurts. Following the Eagles” disappointing exit in the NFC Wild-Card game against the San Francisco 49ers, McCoy suggested that there are individuals within the organization who believe Hurts is hindering the offense”s potential.

“I need you to be special and make plays,” McCoy stated, emphasizing the expectations for Hurts. He mentioned conducting thorough research and hinted that the coaching staff is constrained in their play-calling due to Hurts” limitations. “We can”t do different exotic looks, different formations or different motions because I”m hearing that he can”t really do it,” McCoy explained.

McCoy further compared Hurts to quarterback Brock Purdy, noting, “If Brock Purdy had weapons, we win this game by at least ten points.” He also highlighted how A.J. Brown, a key target for the Eagles, struggled to find a rhythm during the game due to a lack of opportunities. “When you watch guys like Justin Jefferson or Ja”Marr Chase, look how they try to get their best receiver the ball… They don”t do that with A.J. Brown,” he remarked.

After the Eagles” playoff loss on January 11, 2026, McCoy expressed frustration over the offensive scheme, which was altered this season under new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. “I keep digging deeper and I don”t think Jalen likes those plays. I think he wants it simple… The talent we have should be a little more complicated,” he noted.

Given the current circumstances, McCoy suggested that it would not be surprising if Brown chose to leave the Eagles due to insufficient targets as their top receiver. The ongoing dynamics between Hurts and Brown have been a topic of concern since last season, when Brown publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the offensive strategy.

Hurts, who was named Super Bowl MVP just a year prior, faced intense pressure from the 49ers” defense and struggled to execute the new offensive system. The Eagles” inability to adapt their game plan ultimately led to their season-ending defeat.
