Matthew Stafford Leads Rams to Fourth Straight Win Over 49ers with Four Touchdowns

Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes, setting a new franchise record for the most touchdowns in a three-game span as the Los Angeles Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers 42-26 on Sunday, marking their fourth consecutive win.

In Santa Clara, California, Stafford”s impressive performance included connecting with Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, Davis Allen, and Colby Parkinson for scores. With this victory, the Rams improved to 7-2, avenging an earlier overtime loss to the 49ers (6-4) in Week 5. This win keeps them tied for first place in the NFC West alongside Seattle.

Stafford now leads the NFL with 25 touchdown passes this season and has thrown 20 touchdowns without an interception over his last six games. His 13 touchdowns in the past three games set a new franchise record, making him the first player in NFL history to throw for at least four touchdowns without an interception in three consecutive games. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 280 yards.

The 49ers, missing key defensive players Nick Bosa and Fred Warner for the season, struggled against Stafford”s aerial attack. They also lost first-round rookie Mykel Williams to a season-ending knee injury last week. Despite not making any significant trades before the deadline, San Francisco faced a formidable challenge against the Rams.

The Rams scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, establishing a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, fueled by two touchdown passes from Stafford. Although the 49ers moved the ball effectively at times, they were hindered by a fumble from Jauan Jennings and a failed fourth down attempt when Christian McCaffrey was stopped for no gain by Byron Young. Mac Jones did connect with Jennings late in the half for a six-yard touchdown, making the score 21-7.

The second half saw both teams exchange touchdowns, but the Rams ultimately pulled away in the latter stages. Jones completed 33 of 39 passes for 319 yards with three touchdowns and one interception, falling to 5-3 while filling in for the injured Brock Purdy.

Injury updates for the Rams include Adams, who left the game in the second half with a back injury. The 49ers” Purdy remained inactive for the sixth consecutive game due to a toe injury, having practiced on a limited basis for three weeks without participating in a game since Week 4.

Looking ahead, the Rams will host Seattle on Sunday, while the 49ers will travel to Arizona for their next matchup.
