Aussie punter Michael Dickson has expressed his delight at fulfilling a culinary craving upon returning home after securing a Super Bowl victory with the Seattle Seahawks. Following the Seahawks” triumph over the New England Patriots earlier this month, Dickson was eager to enjoy a chicken parmi accompanied by chips and chicken salt.
“I can”t wait to get home, get some chips with some chicken salt – I”m craving that,” Dickson stated, revealing his deep appreciation for Australian cuisine. “And a parmi. That”d be nice.”
On Tuesday, Dickson visited Sydney”s Sporting Globe to indulge in his desired meal while relishing the glory of his team”s accomplishment in the NFL”s premier event. Recognized as one of the league”s top punters, Dickson delivered an outstanding performance during the Super Bowl, executing precise kicks that effectively confined the Patriots in their own territory.
His remarkable showing garnered him significant acclaim, further validating the $25 million contract extension he signed last year, alongside the prestigious honor of receiving a Super Bowl ring. “I”m super proud. I get to wear the Australian flag on my helmet, and I got so much support from every Australian when I was over there,” he remarked. “I really did feel the love leading up to the game. It was such a special feeling.”
Dickson emphasized the importance of the win not only for himself but also for his home country. “To win the game and do Australia proud… it genuinely did mean a lot to me,” he added. He noted that as a punter, opportunities to impact the game are rare, making his contributions during the Super Bowl especially gratifying.
Having developed his kicking skills through Australian Rules football before transitioning to American football at the age of 19, Dickson believes this background gives him a competitive edge over his American counterparts. “Being an Aussie really helps when you have a short field to work with because you can hit different types of punts,” he explained. “You kind of know your way around the ball a bit more than maybe some Americans do, just because at a local field, you”ll practice hitting bananas and snap kicks and trick goals. That”s really where you get the benefit as an Aussie.”
Looking ahead, Dickson expressed excitement at the possibility of the Seahawks playing an NFL game in Australia, similar to the upcoming event featuring the LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers. “That would be such a full circle moment for me and it would mean the world to me,” he said.
