The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing significant free agency decisions, particularly regarding running back Rachaad White. After four seasons with the team, White”s role has diminished, especially with the emergence of standout running back Bucky Irving. As his opportunities decrease, White appears ready to move on, suggesting throughout the offseason that his time in Tampa Bay may be coming to an end.
In light of this situation, many analysts are speculating about White”s next destination. Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus recently identified the Dallas Cowboys as the best landing spot for White from a fantasy football perspective. Jahnke noted that to score well in fantasy, a player typically needs to receive more touches—a scenario White did not experience in Tampa Bay.
According to Jahnke, the Cowboys could provide White with a prominent role that aligns well with their offensive scheme. He highlighted White”s effectiveness as a receiver and his impressive performance on underutilized run concepts. Over the last two seasons, White has achieved an 84.0-plus rushing grade on counter and power run plays and has excelled with a rushing grade above 80 on trap and pull lead plays. His overall rushing grade of 91.9 ranks second only to Derrick Henry when these specific run concepts are employed.
Jahnke pointed out that both the Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals were among the few teams that utilized power, counter, and pull lead runs on at least 8% of their plays, with traps also being a significant part of their strategy. He stated, “Regardless of whether the Cowboys re-sign Javonte Williams or not, White would be at his best in the Cowboys” offense.”
Taking on a feature back role in Dallas would likely appeal to White. Under head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterback Dak Prescott, the Cowboys” offense has shown significant potential, and White would benefit from running behind one of the league”s strongest offensive lines. This opportunity could fulfill White”s aspirations of being a leading contributor in an NFL offense.
As the legal tampering period for free agency approaches in early March, White is expected to engage with multiple teams. The upcoming weeks will reveal his next move as he seeks a fresh start away from Tampa Bay.
