SANTA CLARA — Davante Adams, wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams, left the team”s 42-26 victory over the San Francisco 49ers due to an oblique injury. The incident occurred during the fourth quarter as he ran a route, prompting him to reach for the area near his lower back on the left side.
Following the game, Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated that the 12-year veteran likely had the ability to return if the situation had called for it. “He got his oblique. I think he could have been able to come back in if it was a little bit closer,” McVay noted.
Adams was seen stopping mid-route and expressing discomfort. After leaving the field, he was engaged in conversation with the Rams” Vice President of Sports Performance, Reggie Scott. Despite an attempt to rejoin the coaching staff, Adams was ultimately led to the blue injury tent by Scott after he showed signs of distress.
“It was biting a little bit in the game, but it”s feeling better now,” Adams commented after the match. “We”ll see how it feels next week.” Even with his early exit, he was a key player, leading the Rams with eight targets and six receptions, accumulating 77 yards and scoring his sixth touchdown in just three games.
Adams” touchdown was notable, as he and fellow receiver Puka Nacua executed a scissor route, with Adams starting in the slot before breaking outside. Quarterback Matthew Stafford delivered a well-placed throw that allowed Adams to make the catch without interference from safety Malik Mustapha.
McVay praised Adams” impact on the game, stating, “You really felt his presence early and often in the game.”
