Riq Woolen has finalized a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles valued at $15 million, according to sources close to the situation. The cornerback, who will celebrate his 27th birthday in May, was ranked as the No. 24 player and the No. 2 cornerback in The Athletic“s list of top free agents.
Woolen brings a unique blend of size and speed to the Eagles” secondary, standing at 6 feet 4 inches with 33 5/8-inch arms. He showcased his impressive speed by clocking a 4.26-second 40-yard dash during the 2022 NFL Combine. Drafted in the fifth round by the Seattle Seahawks, he made an immediate impact in his rookie season, leading the league with six interceptions and earning a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Despite his strong start, Woolen has experienced inconsistencies over the past few seasons. He faced a temporary benching in 2023 and was disciplined for a team rule violation in 2024. After starting 17, 15, and 14 games in his first three seasons, he saw a significant reduction in playing time during the 2025 season, starting only seven regular-season games. He rotated with Josh Jobe as the second outside cornerback for the Seahawks.
Woolen struggled with penalties, leading the Seahawks in penalty yardage and finishing second in accepted penalties, as reported by TruMedia. His performance in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams was particularly notable, as a taunting penalty allowed the Rams to extend a drive that was about to end in a punt. Following that play, Woolen was beaten for a touchdown, which could have jeopardized the Seahawks” Super Bowl aspirations. Nonetheless, the Seahawks secured victory in that game and went on to win the Super Bowl two weeks later, where Woolen played 69 percent of the defensive snaps in their 29-13 win over the New England Patriots.
