PHILADELPHIA — Concerns regarding Saquon Barkley“s injury status for the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers can be eased. The Philadelphia Eagles running back participated in practice on Thursday at the NovaCare Complex, indicating a positive outlook for his availability for “Monday Night Football.”
Barkley experienced a groin injury during the second half of the Eagles” 38-20 victory over the Giants on October 26, which took place at Lincoln Financial Field. After sustaining the injury, he did not return to the game. The star running back had showcased his best performance of the season with 150 rushing yards and a touchdown before he limped off the field following a 28-yard run at the end of the third quarter. Following the injury, he was assessed by the training staff and monitored in the medical tent, ultimately watching the remainder of the game from the sidelines.
When addressing the injury after the game, Barkley stated, “I wasn”t worried about it. I”ve dealt with this before. Nothing crazy. It”s a long season.” He further remarked that he “went out swinging” when asked if he attempted to return to the field. With the Eagles leading 31-13 early in the fourth quarter, Tank Bigsby stepped up, rushing for 104 yards and effectively closing out the NFC East rivalry.
The Eagles will undoubtedly rely on Barkley as they prepare to face a formidable Packers defense, led by linebacker Micah Parsons. Both the Eagles (6-2) and the Packers (5-2-1) are considered among the top teams in the NFC, with Philadelphia entering the game as a slight 2.5-point underdog at Lambeau Field, according to FanDuel.
Barkley has had notable performances against the Packers in the past, including a Week 1 game in Brazil where he rushed for 109 yards and caught an 18-yard touchdown. In their NFC Wild Card round matchup, he added 119 rushing yards to his impressive record against Green Bay.
